Abstract

Fascioliasis is a parasitic zoonotic disease that infects herbivorus animals and caused by Fasciola
hepatica. Based on statistic WHO in 2007 said that fascioliasis infected around 2,4 million people in
the world. Onion (Allium cepa L) consist of Allicin. Allicin on Onion can used as Anthelmintic. Allicin
will blocked the forming of ATP in Fasciola hepatica worm. If the forming of ATP is pursued, hence
it will weakens the body of Fasciola hepatica, then caused death. The purpose of this research is to
know the influence of Onion (Allium cepa L) infusion against a mortality rate of Fasciola hepatica in
vitro. This research was experimental, by using post test only control group design, which was done
in Laboratory of Parasitology in Department of Health Analyst Surabaya, on June 2015. The sample
was 130 worms Fasciola hepatica from cattle liver Slaughterhouse Peggirian in Surabaya. Dependent
variable from this research was the mortality rate from Fasciola hepatica, and the independent
variable was the infusion of onions with concentration 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, and 10%. The
observation doing every 15 minutes, and ended after 14 hours. The result show that infusion of
Onion in concentration 10% given the significant result. It shows that the infusion of onion affect the
mortality rate of Fasciola hepatica in vitro.
