Abstract


Askariasis is an intestinal infection caused by parasite worm Ascaris lumbricoides. Carrots (Daucus carota) is
one of the plants that is often used in the community worm medicine (Daucus carota) containing several
compounds that have the potential as anthelmintics, namely Quercitrin, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. The
purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the effect of ethanol extract on carrot (Daucus carota)tuber of local and imported varieties on the death of Ascaris suum Goeze worms in vitro. The method in this
study was experimental with post test only group design. The subject of the study was Ascaris suum. The study
was conducted at the Laboratory of Parasitology Department of Health Polytechnic Surabaya in May-June 2018.
This study used 6 treatment groups namely 0.9% NaCl as a negative control, 0.25% pirantel pamoate as a
positive control, extracts of local and imported carrots with a concentration of 10%, 20%, 40% and 60%. Data
were analyzed using the Kolmogrov-Smirnov test, the Kruskal-Wallis test then continued using the Post-Hoc test
to determine differences in anthelmintic power of ethanol extract of carrot tubers (Daucus carota) on imported
and local varieties on worm mortality. The duration of Ascaris suum death was caused by local varieties of carrot
ethanol extract was 10% for 283.5625 minutes, concentration of 20% for 142,375 minutes, concentration of 40%
for 68.125 minutes and concentration of 60% for 36.6875 minutes. Meanwhile, 10% concentrated imported carrot
ethanol extract for 277.8125 minutes, 20% concentration for 142.5625 minutes, 40% concentration for 63.375
minutes, 60% concentration for 43.125 minutes. So it can be concluded that carrot tuber extracts of local and
imported varieties have an anthelmintic effect on Ascaris suum worms.
