Daya Hambat Ekstrak Biji Pala (Myristica fragrans) Terhadap Pertumbuhan Bakteri Escherichia coli Secara In Vitro

Abstract


Diarhea is one of the most serious problems that occur in developing countries with the most deaths in infants and children. One of the causes of diarhea is Escherichia coli bacteria. The nutmeg seed (Myristica fragrans) contains essential oil, phenolic and saponin compounds that act as antibacterial. This purpose of research to know the ability of nutmeg seed extract (Myristica fragrans) to growth of Escherichia coli bacteria.This research is Quasi Experimental with Posstest Only Control Group Design. This research was conducted from May to June 2017 in Laboratory of Bacteriology Department of Health Analysis Health Polytechnic of Surabaya. Antibacterial inhibitory test using liquid dilution method. The concentrations of nutmeg seed extract used were 25%, 20%, 15%, 10%, 5% and 0%. Analysis of the data obtained in this research is processed by using non parametric test that is Kruskal Wallis test. The result of this research by used liquid dilution method showed MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) of nutmeg seed extract to growth of Escherichia coli bacteria that is 20%. MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration) of nutmeg seed extract to growth of Escherichia coli bacteria that is at 25% concentration, this is because in of nutmeg seed extract contains antibacterial compound that is essential oil compound, phenolic and saponin. The results of this study indicate that nutmeg seed extract (Myristica fragrans) is able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria.
