Abstract

One of the clinical chemistry checkups were often performed is blood glucose’s check. Blood
glucose’s check better using the sodium fluoride anticoagulant, which capable to inhibit the
glycolysis process. Not all clinical laboratories perform the blood glucose’s check using sodium
fluoride anticoagulant. That laboratories are only able to provide limited types of anticoagulant, and
can not provide all types of reagents that suitable to checkup parameters requested. For the sake
of optimization obtained samples and treatment samples immediately, EDTA anticoagulant used for
checkups.
This research aims to compare the blood glucose levels between NaF plasma and EDTA plasma
samples. The reseacrh used an experimental research were conducted on 30 peoples of outpatients
in the Clinical Pathology Laboratory of Ibnu Sina Gresik Hospital, which taken randomly, and
conducted in March to April 2014.
The result of this research indicated that average of blood glucose levels in NaF plasma sample is
135.83 mg/dL, and in EDTA plasma sample is 125 mg/dL. Comparison of the blood glucose levels
between NaF plasma and EDTA plasma samples is 1.08 equal 1. It can be concluded that blood
glucose levels in EDTA plasma lower than blood glucose levels in NaF Plasma.
