Abstract

The use of natural ingredients derived from plants is useful for treating various diseases, even herbal remedies tend to be safer because it does not provide negative effects for the body. Diarrhea is a public health problem in developing countries and is experienced by all people. Diarrhea disease caused by microorganisms one of the causes is Escherichia coli bacteria. Plants potentially used as traditional medicine are Pakia speciosa Hassk and Leucaena leucocephala because it has active compounds, such as Alkaloids, Saponins, Flavonoids, Tannins, Trithiolane, and mimosine which are antibacterial.
The aim of this research is to find out the inhibitory power of the juice of Pakia speciosa Hassk seeds and Leucaena leucocephala seeds on the growth of Escherichia coli dilution method to determine MIC and MBC, conducted on 04 June to 14 June 2018 at Bacteriology Laboratory of Health Analyst Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya.
The sample used in this research is Pakia speciosa Hassk and Leucaena leucocephala obtained from the garden in Ngawi. The concentration of used juices are 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% with four repetitions. The results showed that MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) was turbidity on MHB media and MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration) was negative on all concentrations characterized by growth of Escherichia coli bacteria on MHA media.
The conclution of this research, the juice of Pakia speciosa Hassk and Leucaena leucocephala were negative, so it cannot be used as an antibacterial of Escherichia coli bacteria.
