ANTIBAKTERI PERASAN DAUN PEPAYA (Carica papaya L.) TERHADAP PERTUMBUHAN BAKTERI Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract


Staphylococcus aureus is the most infectious bacteria. One type of Staphylococcus aureus infection is a
skin infection characterized by pus. Papaya plants (Carica papaya L.) is one of the plant that each part can be
used as a medicine. Papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.)contain compounds that efficacious as antibacterial.The
purpose of this paper is to determine the presence of antibacterial power of papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) on
the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The research was conducted from May to June 2017 at the Health Analyst
Department of Poltekkes Kemenkes Surabaya. The antibacterial power test was performed in vitro by liquid
dilution method and in vivo using animal trials that were injured and infected by Staphylococcus aureus on the
lesion. The sample used were papaya leaf juice (Carica papaya L.) in concentration 80%, 85%, 90%, 95% and
100%. Data analysis is presented by descriptively and statistically. The research parameters were the inhibition
of papaya leaf (Carica papaya L.) juice and the duration of lesion closure after being injured and infected.The
test results showed that the minimum inhibitory power of papaya leaf juice (Carica papaya L.) was at a
concentration of 90%. The 90% concentration is also the smallest concentration that can heal lesions faster than
the positive control of Fusid Acid. Based on the data obtained, papaya leaf juice (Carica papaya L.) has
antibacterial power against the growth of Staphylococcus aureus.
